I’m getting close to launching Brittany’s website. Last month, she made some edits on her main pages. I’m going to make some additional edits, organize some information, implement a few items, sign with a host, and then make sure it’s working correctly. I want to add a few “programmed” things like a guest book, and I need to set up Youtube and Flickr accounts (or something similar) so I don’t have to host all of her data, although the hosting plan I’m looking at has a lot of space for the price.
As a matter of fact, I’m surprised at how cheap it will be to host this for her – only about $5.95 a month. I’ve spent a little time looking for a host, and there are plenty of options, many of which are under $10 per month. I may have to get a few websites going at that price! There are plenty of features that come with these “low cost” hosts as well. The company I’m liking right now is aplus.net. I’m not 100% settled yet, but I’m feeling pretty good about it.
Brittany’s site is a lot different than the one I’m building at work. The work one is heavy on forms, programming, and database manipulation, while Brittany’s is heavier on artwork, HTML, and data. Neither is groundbreaking, but they have combined to make me feel comfortable calling myself at least a “beginner” at web development. Of course, I have a lot of big ideas, but we’ll have to see how things pan out. The nice thing for me is a feeling of accomplishment, because I’m actually making progress toward achieving another one of my “dreams” – being a programmer/developer. I’m not delusional, though; I have a long way to go!
