…when you keep thinking that all the stuff you had and played as a kid is better than the stuff out there today. It’s when you cross that line from enjoying the latest and most contemporary pastimes to scourering eBay to rediscover your youth. Yes, I’m there.
I’ve picked up many old games from my youth – both for my own uses, and to share with my kids. I have plenty of 1st edition AD&D stuff, as well as many other role playing games and accessories from the original TSR sets. On the consoles and computer, I play just as many old games and compilations (Intellivsion, Atari 2600, arcade) as I do the newer “cutting-edge” stuff. I play more Monopoly, Clue, Battleship, and other similar board games from my youth than I do the newer stuff, like Cranium Cadoo, Torpedo Attack, and so forth. Heck, I even own an electric football set (although it doens’t get much use, LOL)!
I just picked up another game from the late 70′s / early 80′s – 221B Baker Street. It’s a Clue-type game based on cases for Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. I actually never owned this board game growing up, but I’ve picked it up and looked at it many times in various stores over the years. Thanks to eBay, I have the game and two extra case sets on the way!
Who knows what’s next… I am seriously eyeing some Subbuteo equipment, and thinking of enlisting my Dad, who’s a talented woodworker, to help me make a table.
