Part of me refuses to grow up! I grew up in the age of mass-market video gaming. It’s been a part of my life for thirty years. Some of my fondest memories are centered around gaming – partly because of the games, and partly because of the relationships I developed with friends who have similar interests. I think there are millions of guys and gals out there just like me – who work full time, have a family and all of the responsibilities that come with it, and use gaming as an escape.
Not just video gaming, mind you. I also enjoy board games, family games, and fantasy sports. I’ll be writing about all of those, plus whatever else captures my interest, including some of the sports teams I cheer for, current events, and life in general.
I first started writing in the late 1990′s, where I did my first video game review and wrote a series of Fantasy Baseball articles at Baseball Sim Central. After that, I joined Jonathan Calvert, formerly of the Sports Reviewers website, at his new Calvert Games website. We wrote reviews (well, essays, really) for a few years, until Jonathan switched to his current blog format. Shortly thereafter, I started my own blog, called “Gut Reaction,” where my friend Kellie is still posting today. During my time at “the Gut,” Gameshark ran an open solicitation for writers. Gameshark is big-time, compared to where I’ve been writing, plus, it pays! Fortunately, I was selected as one of the writers, and I’ve been writing reviews (primarily) for them for nearly a year. Wow, I’m a professional writer… I’ll be posting a few things on the freelance life as well.
During the day, I’m a normal, every-day, middle-class business man. I also actively participate in my kids’ activates, often coaching their sports teams, or just being there for support. Night time is when I get to have my fun, and that’s the basis for most of what I’ll be posting here. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoyed your stay!
In the rare event that you’d like to make a comment to me about the site or about a specific post/thought that I had, I’ve left no way for you to contact me, except for the comments section. To keep spam down, you have to register to leave a comment, and if you’re like me, it’s probably not worth the hassle.
So, if you want to share something with me, you can reach me at kevin-at-middleagedgamer-dot-com. Obviously, you’ll need to convert that to a “regular” email address. Consider that an elementary level cryptogram. Take that, spam bots!
